Gentilly Streetscape

A streetscape is a public improvement project that enhances the public area and triggers subsequent recovery and investment in surrounding neighborhoods. This development is designed to help create additional and continued private investment in the City’s key recovery areas. There are a total of 25 streetscape projects currently underway or planned in the City of New Orleans.

The scope of work for this project includes:

  • Removing and replacing existing sidewalk
  • Installing Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps
  • Replacing driveways and curbs
  • Pavement patching
  • Improved landscaping

Construction began in December 2013 and is expected to last about two months. During construction, residents can expect to experience temporary construction inconveniences such as limited access to areas within the construction zone, movement of heavy equipment, safety signage, fences and sounds.

No major traffic lane closures are anticipated and traffic flow will remain open at all times.

Total cost for this project is approximately $740,000 and is funded by Community Development Block Grants. The construction contract was awarded to Young's  public bid in January 2013.
