City of New Orleans Partners with Nonprofit SBP and NORA to Break Ground on 39 Affordable Housing Units in Lower Ninth Ward

The Mayor’s Office of Housing Policy and Community Development (OCD) Director Tyra Johnson Brown today joined District E Councilmember Oliver Thomas, SBP New Orleans Executive Director Kenneth Morgan, Jr., SBP Chief Financial Officer Keith McCulloch, New Orleans Redevelopment Authority (NORA) Executive Director Brenda Breaux, BankPlus Executive Vice President and Louisiana President Jeff Ehlinger and Louisiana Housing Corporation (LHC) Chief of Multifamily Production Louis Russell to break ground on the $11.7 million affordable housing development known as St. Claude Gardens II. This project is slated to bring 39 new affordable housing units across 20 scattered lots throughout the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans beginning in June 2024.

City of New Orleans Reminds Residents of American Rescue Plan Act Information Sessions Starting Tonight, March 25

Residents are reminded that the ARPA Implementation Team will begin holding monthly ARPA Information Sessions at libraries throughout New Orleans, starting tonight, March 25. The information sessions will be an opportunity to share updates on ARPA funded projects, share upcoming funding opportunities, answer questions from stakeholders and connect New Orleanians with agencies who have received ARPA funds. Traffic Advisory: Temporary Road Closure of the 6100 Block of Canal Boulevard (Lake Bound)

The City of New Orleans Department of Public Works’ (DPW) construction contractor, Hard Rock Construction, LLC, will close the travel lanes on Canal Boulevard (Lake Bound) between Germain and French Streets to vehicular traffic beginning on Monday, March 25 at 7 a.m. until Monday, April 15 at 5 p.m.

City of New Orleans Reminds Residents of New Area 1 and Area 4 Trash and Recycling Collection Contracts to Begin April 1

The City of New Orleans reminds residents that the new curbside trash and recycling collection contracts for Area 1 and Area 4 will begin on Monday, April 1. The new contracts with IV Waste and Richard’s Disposal include a seven-year agreement with the City of New Orleans to provide enhanced collection services to residents in Area 1 and Area 4.

City of New Orleans Awarded Funding from U.S. Department of Energy for Public Energy Efficiency Campaign

The City of New Orleans is the recipient of a $381,471 award from the U.S. Department of Energy through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program. The City will utilize these dollars to promote the adoption of solar power systems and energy efficiency measures through programs and financial incentives now available through the federal government.

City of New Orleans Hosts Readiness Event to Enhance Public Safety during Special Major Events

 In partnership with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)’s Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office (CWMD), the City of New Orleans is hosting a multiday readiness event from Monday, March 18 through Friday, March 22. The purpose of this initiative is continuous collaboration, preparedness and improvements for local, state and federal first responders to address tactical, radiological, nuclear and chemical scenarios and to enhance future operations.
