NEW ORLEANS – On Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015, at 9:00 a.m., the City of New Orleans’ Department of Public Works will hold its fourth abandoned vehicle auction of 2015. The auction, located at Almonaster Auto Pound, 10200 Almonaster Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70127. Vehicle preview day and buyer registration will be Monday, Aug. 24, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. No one will be admitted after 3:30 p.m. for security reasons.

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) is hosting a Fall Expo on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 10 a.m. to noon at eight recreation centers across the City. During the Expo, patrons will be able to register for dance, fitness, aquatics, music and art classes. There will also be information about the NORDC Teen Council, athletics programs, special events and more.

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu signed into law an ordinance requiring City contractors and recipients of grants be paid a “living wage” of $10.55 per hour and provide a minimum of seven paid sick days.

NEW ORLEANS – Ahead of the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu will travel to Atlanta, Georgia, and Houston, Texas, to thank those cities for their open arms after the storm, to meet with former city residents and faith leaders displaced by the catastrophic storm and share with them the region’s growth, recovery, and long-term resilience planning a decade later, and encourage them to come back home.

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu issued the following statement about the passing of New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) Surgeon, Dr. Norman McSwain, who died on Tuesday, July 28 at the age of 78. McSwain served as the Police Surgeon for the New Orleans Police Department and the Medical Director for the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival for the past 30 years.

NEW ORLEANS— Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu, NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison, and advocates announced systemic reforms underway that are necessary to thoroughly investigate sexual assault and to respect and protect sexual assault survivors. Among the reforms, the Sex Crimes Unit has moved to the New Orleans Family Justice Center so that survivors can meet with detectives and connect to support services at the same time.
