URGENT: Precautionary Boil Water Advisory Issued for Eastbank of New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS – The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (S&WB) has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for the Eastbank of New Orleans. Residents in the affected area are advised not to drink, make ice, brush teeth, or prepare or rinse food with tap water unless it has been properly disinfected until further notice.

City of New Orleans Begins Glass Recycling in the French Quarter and Downtown Development District Tomorrow

NEW ORLEANS – Tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 24, 2015, the City of New Orleans will begin glass recycling in the French Quarter and the Downtown Development District (DDD). Empire Services, the City’s collection contractor in these areas, will begin collecting glass on Thursday of each week from properties eligible to receive sanitation services from the City. Eligible residents and small businesses can utilize blue or black bins with the imprinted recycling logo.

City Receives More Than $2 Million to Hire Office, Add Body-Worn Cameras

NEW ORLEANS – The City of New Orleans this week received more than $2 million through two federal grants to hire more police officers and to purchase more body-worn cameras, both of which will help to enhance public safety, reduce crime and build trust between the police and the residents they serve.

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the New Orleans Health Department will launch a public health education initiative called Sound Check, which aims to reduce the level of harmful sounds that can adversely affect public health. Sound Check will engage residents, businesses, workers, performers and visitors to protect the overall health of the entire community.

City Updates 2015 Hazard Mitigation Plan

NEW ORLEANS – The City of New Orleans is in the process of updating its Hazard Mitigation Plan, which provides a detailed overview of the risks that the City faces from hurricanes and other storms events, chemical spills, etc., as well as outlines the strategies to reduce the effects of those hazards on people and property.
