Construction to Install Lighting Begins at Joe W. Brown Victory Track and Field

NEW ORLEANS— Today, the City announced the start of high-mast lighting construction at the Joe W. Brown Victory Track and Field in New Orleans East.  Public safety is our top priority, so the track and field will be closed throughout construction. All other facilities and amenities within Joe W. Brown Park will remain open to the public.  As an alternative, residents are encouraged to use the walking trails in the park.

City Celebrates Opening of New Rosenwald Center in the B.W. Cooper Neighborhood

NEW ORLEANS –  Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu, City and State officials and FEMA celebrated the opening of the new $8.5 million Rosenwald Center at 1120 South Broad Street in the B.W. Cooper neighborhood. This New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) recreation center replaces the previous facility that was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Construction on the $1.8 million outdoor Rosenwald Pool and Pool House will begin next month and open next summer.

NORDC to host Open House for Organizations to learn about Partnership Opportunities

NEW ORLEANS—The New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) will host an Open House on Wednesday, Oct. 28 from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Sanchez Center, 1616 Caffin Ave., to share opportunities to partner with the Programs Division.

NEW ORLEANS, LA -- Today, City Attorney Sharonda R. Williams announced that she will be leaving her post effective November 1, 2015 to pursue private law practice.  Williams served in this role for two and a half years and has been responsible for directing and supervising the legal affairs of the City of New Orleans for both the executive and legislative branches of City government.  Williams joined the City Attorney’s office in 2011 as Chief Deputy City Attorney for Litigation.

City Celebrates Opening of new Carrollton Hollygrove Senior Center

Second facility dedicated to serving New Orleans’ seniors to open this year

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Landrieu, City officials and FEMA celebrated the opening of the new $3.4 million Carrollton Hollygrove Senior Center facility at 3300 Hamilton Street.

NEW ORLEANS—This weekend, the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) will continue the Fall 2015 season of Movies in the Park on Friday, Oct. 16, 2015 at A.L. Davis Playground, 2600 LaSalle St. and host the first Wing Watchers Club event at Gernon Brown Recreation Center, 1001 Harrison Ave.

City Announces Settlement with Firefighters Union

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced that the City of New Orleans has reached an agreement with the Firefighters Union on the decades long firefighters back pay lawsuit and pension lawsuit.  The settlement resolves these significant liabilities, keeps the city on a positive fiscal track, makes major reforms to the pension and ensures that it will be there for future generations of firefighters.

Mayor Landrieu, City Officials to Announce Firefighters Settlement

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu and City officials will announce the settlement that was reached with the New Orleans Firefighters Union. The settlement resolves a decades-old legal dispute between the City and the Firefighters Union and puts in place reforms to the firefighters pension fund.

Parking Instructions and Traffic Restrictions for Events on Oct 16-17, 2015

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Today, the City of New Orleans issued parking instructions and reminders in advance of events for the weekend of Oct.16 – 17, 2015. The public is encouraged to be patient and to prepare for heavy vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the specified areas by making transportation arrangements accordingly.

Mayor Landrieu Presents 2016 Proposed Operating and Capital Budgets

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu presented the proposed operating and capital budgets for 2016 to the New Orleans City Council. The $592.7 million proposed operating budget is completely balanced and continues to invest in top priorities, including, public safety, job creation, recreation, streets and streetlights and blight reduction, while delivering high quality services for New Orleans residents.
