Mayor Landrieu to Participate in Aspen Forum and Opportunity Youth Panel

NEW ORLEANS — Friday, May 8, 2015 Mayor Mitch Landrieu will provide remarks as part of a panel discussion presented by the Aspen Forum for community solutions and Opportunity Youth Incentive Fund in partnership with Jobs For The Future (JFF). The panel discussion will explore global lessons on innovation in system leadership and how they can be applied in New Orleans to improve outcomes in education and employment – including reducing youth-on-youth violence.

Mayor Signs Ordinances, Lease for 2 Canal Street Redevelopment

NEW ORLEANS - Upon the City Council today adopting the ordinances and lease related to the redevelopment of 2 Canal Street  with Carpenter/Woodward (Four Seasons), Mayor Mitch Landrieu issued the following statement after affixing his signature to the ordinances and the lease for the project in a signing ceremony held today in the Mayor's office.

Fit NOLA and Tulane Prevention Research Center Launch Monthly #LiveFitNOLA Twitter Chats

NEW ORLEANS – The City of New Orleans Health Department’s Fit NOLA initiative and the Prevention Research Center at Tulane University will host a live Twitter chat tomorrow, May 7 from noon to 1 p.m.  The theme of the chat will be “New Orleans: Where Health and History Meet.” The chat will be hosted by The French Market. The goal is to engage and educate residents with an open discussion about the culture of health in New Orleans through social media.

City to Host Household Hazardous Materials Collection Day on Saturday

NEW ORLEANS – The Department of Sanitation will host a Household Hazardous Materials Collection Day on Saturday, May 9, 2015, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the City’s Recycling Drop-Off Center at 2829 Elysian Fields Avenue.

French Market Corporation to Return More Than $2 Million to City

NEW ORLEANS – The French Market Corporation (FMC) announced today it will be returning a dividend in excess of $2 million this year to the City of New Orleans due to increased profits from three FMC-operated parking lots. The FMC, which is required to provide 20 percent of all net adjusted revenues to the City under a 1992 franchise lease agreement, will increase its annual contribution from about $1 million last year to about $2.4 million this year.

NORDC to Host International Jazz Day Program

NEW ORLEANS— The New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) invites residents to an International Jazz Day program on Thursday, April 30 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Treme Recreation Center, 900 N. Villere Street. The event will feature performances by New Creations Brass Band, NORDC Piano Program, The Yisrael Trio, N'iya, Lafayette Elementary and Middle School Band and Choir, and the Matthew Shilling Quartet.

Mayor Landrieu to Participate in POLITICO Magazine's What Works Event in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS – TOMORROW, Mayor Mitch Landrieu will participate in POLITICO Magazine’s What Works event at the New Orleans BioInnovation Center. POLITICO Magazine’s What Works is a national series of conversations about the future of cities and how cities have reimagined themselves in the face of hardship. Mayor Landrieu will appear with Rockefeller Foundation President Dr. Judith Rodin and will discuss what New Orleans has learned about reinvention and the building blocks of resiliency.

NORDC Movies in the Park Cancelled This Weekend Due to Inclement Weather

NEW ORLEANS— Due to inclement weather, the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission’s (NORDC) Movies in the Park screening of “The Princess and the Frog” originally scheduled for April 24 at Hardin Playground, 2501 New Orleans St., has been cancelled.  A new date will be announced. Movies in the Park is an outdoor movie screening program for residents across the city. Movies in the Park is free and open to the public.
