2013 Budget Presentation postponed due to Hurricane Isaac

September 20, 2012

NEW ORLEANS, LA—Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced the postponement of the 2013 budget presentation to the New Orleans City Council due to extraordinary circumstances caused by Hurricane Isaac.  Mayor Landrieu signed an executive order allowing for a budget presentation two weeks later than the Administration has done in the previous two years.

“Hurricane Isaac delayed both our formulation of budgets for each department and our community outreach,” said Mayor Mitch Landrieu. “We will use this time to incorporate feedback from every council district and to ensure all City departments draft the most efficient budgets possible.”

In a letter sent to the City Council last week, Mayor Landrieu requested that the Council hold a special meeting on Monday, October 29, for the Administration’s presentation of the 2013 proposed operating and capital budgets. While the requested date is later than the previous two years, it still meets the City Charter requirement of submitting the budget to the Council “not later than the first day of November” as required by Section 6-102.

Hurricane Isaac also delayed the Budgeting for Outcomes meeting in District D originally scheduled for August 27. It is rescheduled for Monday, September 24 at 6 p.m. at Gentilly Baptist Church on 5141 Franklin Ave.

The executive order is attached.
