City officials to provide update on St. Roch Park redevelopment

February 13, 2013

NEW ORLEANS, LA – On Thursday, February 14 at 12:15 p.m., the City of New Orleans and District C Councilmember Kristin Gisleson Palmer will hold a photo opportunity to commemorate the redevelopment of St. Roch Park at 1835 St. Roch Avenue. This project will restore the existing park which was damaged during Hurricane Katrina and is scheduled to be complete in summer 2013. Funding for this redevelopment comes from FEMA recovery dollars, Disaster Community Development Block Grants, and City Bond funds. St. Roch Park was originally opened in 1910 and is the third oldest playground in the city.

St. Roch Park’s restoration will include a new baseball field, resurfaced basketball court, repairs to the fences and gates, upgrades to the restroom facilities and concession stand, and a new brick plaza that will cross the width of the playground which will include benches and picnic tables. Officials will also recognize the completion of the enhancements along the St. Roch Neutral Ground.
