Mayor Landrieu, local citizens to participate in fourth NOLA FOR LIFE Day tomorrow

NEW ORLEANS, LA — Tomorrow, July 20, Mayor Mitch Landrieu along with City officials, local organizations, volunteers and residents will participate in the fourth NOLA FOR LIFE  Day to revitalize the Gert Town neighborhood in and around Norwood Thompson Playground. The event is part of Mayor Landrieu’s NOLA FOR LIFE comprehensive murder reduction strategy, which encourages citizens to get involved and rebuild neighborhoods.

Volunteer activities at the July 20 event will take place from 9am to 1pm at Norwood Thompson Playground which is located at 7200 Forshey Street.

Volunteer activities around the neighborhood will include: installation of energy efficient light bulbs with Green Light New Orleans and smoke detectors with the New Orleans Fire Department, cleaning and marking of storm drains with Bayou Land, maintaining community gardens with Hike for KaTREEna along with canvassing and cleaning up the neighborhood. NOLA FOR LIFE Day also will include a FIT NOLA Parks community engagement event and a resource fair with representatives from City and partner agencies on hand to share information with the public.

Additionally, the following locations are scheduled to be demolished on Saturday:

7728-30 Forshey Street

3315 Lowerline Street

3016-18 Audubon Court

In advance of NOLA for Life Day, City departments and agencies including Code Enforcement & Hearings Bureau, NOPD, NOFD, 311, Sanitation, NORA, NORDC, Public Works, Parks & Parkways, Neighborhood Engagement Office, Mosquito, Rodent & Termite Control Board, and Sewerage and Water Board have focused on quality of life and public safety enhancements. The City has repaired street lights, replaced missing street signs, removed abandoned cars, cut overgrown lots, and perform code enforcement sweeps.
