Mayor Landrieu announces recipients of Wisner Donation Funds

November 26, 2013

NEW ORLEANS, LA —Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced that 41 organizations across the City will receive 2013 competitive grants from the Edward Wisner Donation.

“We’re pleased today to announce our Wisner Donation competitive grant recipients, chosen based on established criteria and a thorough assessment of all applicants,” said Mayor Landrieu. “These grants will be distributed to deserving organizations that are contributing to our community in meaningful ways.”

The City received 124 grant proposals valued at over $3 million for the Spring/Fall 2013 competitive grants cycles. This is the Landrieu Administration’s fourth round of Wisner Donation grants.

The Wisner Donation was created from the estate of Edward Wisner to the City of New Orleans as a 100 year charitable trust in 1914. The Donation must support local needs in the areas of beautification, education, recreation or human services.

The City sought proposals that best responded to the requirements of the Wisner Donation and to additional criteria, including alignment with citywide priorities, demonstration of an innovative and performance-driven approach, maximum public access and benefit, diversity and inclusiveness, and ability to leverage other investments.

Applications were reviewed by a group of senior City officials including Judy Reese Morse, Deputy Mayor Chief of Staff; Scott Hutcheson, Advisor to the Mayor for Cultural Economy; Karen DeSalvo, Health Commissioner; Vic Richard, Executive Director of the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission; Brooke Smith, Director of Strategic Partnerships; Tyronne Walker, Director of Ceasefire New Orleans; Jeff Hebert, Director of the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority; and Charles West, Innovation Delivery Team leader.

“We will continue to ensure that we use these funds to strengthen the heart of our community and address our city’s greatest needs,” said Mayor Landrieu.
