New Orleans Health Department to host enrollment events for Health Insurance Marketplace before deadline

NEW ORLEANS, LA – In an effort to ensure as many New Orleanians in need have the opportunity to sign-up for low cost, comprehensive health insurance through the new Health Insurance Marketplace before the March 31st enrollment period ends, the New Orleans Health Department (NOHD) is reaching out to eligible citizens to enroll. Up to 30,000 residents of New Orleans are expected to be eligible for tax credits from the Marketplace.  Nationally, 6 in 10 Americans could receive health insurance for $100/month or less.

The open enrollment period ends on March 31, 2014.

The City is working on several fronts to share information with the community and facilitate enrollment during this period.

  • Office Hours: Health Insurance Marketplace Outreach and Enrollment Specialists will be available to help members of the public apply or to enroll in the Marketplace plan on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11am-1pm throughout the month of March at the NOHD, Suite 8E18 of City Hall.
  • Collaboration with Other City Departments:  All City departments and agencies will have flyers and information on how to find application and enrollment assistance.
  • Enrollment Events: The NOHD and 504HealthNet, the regional coalition of primary care providers, will be hosting enrollment events to educate and assist on these dates and times:

The Marketplace primarily serves individuals and families who are not offered insurance through their job and do not have current coverage through Medicaid, Medicare or Tricare.  You must also be a U.S. citizen or documented resident to qualify. Tax credits or discounts on monthly payments will be available to individuals making between $11,500 and $46,000 per year.  For families of four, tax credits are available if their income is between $23,500 and $94,000.
