NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans construction contractor, Hard Rock Construction, LLC, will reduce lake bound traffic on Canal St. between Dorsiere and Bourbon Streets from three to one travel lane beginning Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 8 a.m. The travel lane reduction will last approximately two weeks to accommodate construction of the French Quarter Infrastructure Improvement Project. Public safety is our top priority; residents and commuters are reminded to use caution when driving, bicycling and walking near this construction site.
The travel lane reduction will allow construction crews to excavate the roadway and connect new drainage pipes from Bourbon Street into the City’s existing drainage system on Canal Street. Drivers may use Poydras Street as an alternative route to reach their destination. Signage and traffic control measures, such as barrels, will be onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians.
The $6 million reconstruction project calls for removing and replacing existing water and drainage lines, repairing the sewer line, repaving the roadway in concrete, installing new sidewalks when necessary and installing Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps at intersections.
