Traffic Advisory: Intersection of Bourbon and Conti Streets, 200 Block Full Closure

July 03, 2017

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans, Department of Public Works’ construction contractor will close the intersection of Conti Street at Bourbon Street to through traffic beginning Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at 8 a.m. for approximately two weeks. The closure will allow construction crews to install new underground utilities as part of the French Quarter Infrastructure Improvement Project. Public safety is our top priority; residents and commuters are reminded to use caution when driving, bicycling and walking near this construction site.

In addition to the full closure of the 100 and 300 blocks of Bourbon Street, the 200 block will fully close to traffic beginning Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at 8 a.m. for approximately 75 days.  Through traffic will continue at the intersections of Iberville and Bienville Streets.

Through traffic on Canal Street between Exchange Place and Bourbon Street is also reduced from three to two lanes of travel to facilitate deliveries to the project site. Signage and traffic control measures such as barrels and fencing are onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians.

Alternative travel routes:

  • Bourbon Street: N. Rampart and Decatur Streets;
  • Canal Street: Poydras Street;
  • Conti Street: Iberville Street.

The $6 million reconstruction project calls for removing and replacing existing water and drainage lines, repairing the sewer line, repaving the roadway in concrete, installing new sidewalks when necessary and installing Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps at intersections.
