Mayor Landrieu to Announce 2016 Youth Summer Recreation, Job Opportunities, Free 'Summer Meals'

NEW ORLEANS - TOMORROW, Mayor Landrieu will join City officials to unveil a robust package of recreation and job opportunities available to New Orleans youth this summer. Opportunities will be available citywide through the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) and NOLA Youth Works, the Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program. Additionally, the the City and its partner, Share Our Strength, will announce plans to provide free meals to youth this summer.

NEW ORLEANS —On Saturday, March 5, 2016, the City of New Orleans alongside the New Orleans Pelicans, Domino’s Pizza, Nike and PlayNola will continue the eleventh season of NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball, which provides safe recreational opportunities in crime hot spots for young men through mentorship, support and basketball.

New Orleans Building Corporation to Erect Fencing Around Parking Lots Under U.S. 90/ Pontchartrain Expressway

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the New Orleans Building Corporation (NOBC) – the City of New Orleans’ public benefit corporation – announced that it will erect fencing around the surface parking lots under the U.S. 90/ Pontchartrain Expressway. In total, four parking lots under the expressway along Calliope Street from St. Charles Avenue to S. Rampart Street/Loyola Avenue will be fenced so that they may be returned to commerce as managed parking.

City to Hold Monthly Online Auction for Adjudicated Properties This Wednesday

NEW ORLEANS – The City of New Orleans will host its monthly online auction for adjudicated properties tomorrow, March 2, 2016, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., subject to a rolling close in the case of last-minute competitive bidding. Forty properties are scheduled to be sold throughout the community, where winning bidders will receive full ownership and title insurance for each property.

City Announces Byron C. Williams as NORDC Chair

NEW ORLEANS – Today, City of New Orleans announced a new structure of the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC), which provides governance over the recreation functions of the City. The 13-member commission elected their District D commissioner Byron C. Williams as chair.
