Groundbreaking Scheduled for CVS in Lower Ninth Ward

NEW ORLEANS – On Friday, August 21, 2015, Mayor Landrieu will join CVS/pharmacy executives along with District E Councilmember James Gray to break ground on a new store in the Lower 9th Ward.

CVS/pharmacy will open a 13,225 square foot retail pharmacy at 5000-5030 North Claiborne Avenue, the corner of North Claiborne and Forstall Street.

Mayor Landrieu to Address 10th Anniversary Katrina Commemorative Events

NEW ORLEANS – Tomorrow, Mayor Mitch Landrieu will address some of the major events leading up to the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015. In particular, he will discuss the Citywide Day of Service, which will be held on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015. Mayor Landrieu and the City, with support from Walmart, have set a goal to engage 10,000 volunteers and focus service on seven specific regions of the City to work on 100 individual projects.

City of New Orleans to Hold Abandoned Vehicle Auction

NEW ORLEANS – On Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015, at 9:00 a.m., the City of New Orleans’ Department of Public Works will hold its fourth abandoned vehicle auction of 2015. The auction, located at Almonaster Auto Pound, 10200 Almonaster Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70127. Vehicle preview day and buyer registration will be Monday, Aug. 24, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. No one will be admitted after 3:30 p.m. for security reasons.

NEW ORLEANS- Today, Fit NOLA, Whole Foods Market New Orleans and Rock and Roll NOLA announced Eric and Maleka Beal as the July 2015 Healthy Hero awardees. A “Healthy Hero” is a New Orleanian dedicated to improving the physical and nutritional wellness of their community.

NORDC Encourages Residents to Register for Fall Programming

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) is hosting a Fall Expo on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 10 a.m. to noon at eight recreation centers across the City. During the Expo, patrons will be able to register for dance, fitness, aquatics, music and art classes. There will also be information about the NORDC Teen Council, athletics programs, special events and more.

Mayor Signs Living Wage Ordinance

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu signed into law an ordinance requiring City contractors and recipients of grants be paid a “living wage” of $10.55 per hour and provide a minimum of seven paid sick days.

Mayor Landrieu to Thank Cities for their Generosity and Visit With Former New Orleans Residents to Invite Them Back Home Ahead of Tenth Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina

NEW ORLEANSAhead of the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu will travel to Atlanta, Georgia, and Houston, Texas, to thank those cities for their open arms after the storm, to meet with former city residents and faith leaders displaced by the catastrophic storm and share with them the region’s growth, recovery, and long-term resilience planning a decade later, and encourage them to come back home.

Mayor Landrieu Statement on Passing of Dr. Norman McSwain

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu issued the following statement about the passing of New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) Surgeon, Dr. Norman McSwain, who died on Tuesday, July 28 at the age of 78.  McSwain served as the Police Surgeon for the New Orleans Police Department and the Medical Director for the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival for the past 30 years.

NEW ORLEANS  - A decade after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast and nearly wiped out New Orleans, Mayor Mitch Landrieu will report on New Orleans’ recovery efforts and progress ensuring the city’s long-term resilience at a National Press Club luncheon on Aug. 18, 2015, in Washington, D.C.
