Mayor Landrieu, FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate Announce Final $2 Billion Settlement for Hurricane Katrina-Related Damage to New Orleans' Roads and Subsurface Infrastructure

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu joined FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate to announce a final settlement of $2 billion for Hurricane Katrina-related damage to New Orleans’ roadways and subsurface infrastructure, including water, sewer and drainage pipes. The settlement of $1.2 billion in previously unobligated recovery funds brings total to over $2 billion secured under the Landrieu Administration for roads and subsurface infrastructure.

City Encourages Public to Use Fit NOLA Smart Phone App for Nutritional Guidance, Restaurant Menu Recommendations

NEW ORLEANS – Mayor Mitch Landrieu and the City of New Orleans Health Department encourage residents of and visitors to New Orleans to download the recently launched Fit NOLA smart phone application to receive personalized nutritional guidance from Ochsner Health System’s Eat Fit NOLA initiative.  The FIT NOLA app also contains information from dozens of local health and fitness initiatives and more than 200 Fit NOLA coalition member organizations.

City to Provide Update on Wisner Blvd. Bridge Overpass Replacement Project and Closure

NEW ORLEANS – On Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015, the City of New Orleans and Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development will begin construction of the new, $19.5 million Wisner Blvd. Bridge Overpass that runs parallel to Bayou St. John and connects Wisner Blvd. over Interstate 610. The Wisner Blvd. Bridge Overpass will be closed to the public during construction. Construction will be completed in spring 2017.

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans issued parking instructions and reminders in advance of events scheduled for the weekend of Friday, Dec. 4, 2015 through Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015. The public is encouraged to be patient and prepared for delays by making transportation arrangements accordingly.

City Department of Parks and Parkways, Sewerage & Water Board, NOLA Tree Project to Give Away up to 1000 Free Trees

NEW ORLEANS – Tomorrow, the City of New Orleans Department of Parks and Parkways will host the Big TREEsy Giveaway presented by Entergy and in conjunction with NOLA Tree Project and the Sewerage and Water Board. Up to 1,000 trees are available, and each household is eligible to receive two free trees on a first-come, first-serve basis with additional trees available for purchase at $15 each and fruit trees at $35 each.

Season Ten of NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball Continues

NEW ORLEANS — On Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015, the City of New Orleans alongside the New Orleans Pelicans, Domino’s Pizza and PlayNola will continue the tenth season of NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball, which provides safe recreational opportunities in crime hot spots for young men through the game of basketball. Mentorship and educational support are also key components of this initiative. Registration begins at 7 p.m. at the Joe Brown Recreation Center and the tournament will tip off at 8 p.m.
