Announcing the Fall 2017 term of Civic Leadership Academy

The Neighborhood Engagement Office would like to announce the next term of its most popular initiative, Civic Leadership Academy (CLA). This is an engaging 8 week program that provides residents with an in-depth look at City government. The program includes tours, hands-on demonstrations and presentations that give participants an insider view of how the City of New Orleans operates.

Cleaning Up the Neighborhood: Spotlight on Algiers One

On Saturday, May 13, 2017 members of Algiers One joined forces to clean up the neighborhood. Algiers One is a unified community group composed of diverse citizens from across all of Algiers who work together to make their Algiers community clean, safe, and vibrant at a high standard to attract families and businesses. The first Saturday of each month, neighbors are able to earn Sweat Equity by participating in Algiers One Initiatives like clean ups and think tank meetings. Shoutout to Eric Songy, Evans Thibodeaux, James Lasseigne, Susan Diehl, Dee Duplantier, and Alita Tebault for all their hard work this month!

Civic Leadership Academy: Spring 2017 Cohort

This spring, NEO celebrated 36 community leaders as they graduated from the Civic Leadership Academy (CLA). CLA is a free program that gives residents the opportunity to educate themselves about City government so that they can improve their communities. It provides an in-depth look at local government as well as opportunities for residents to interact with City staff and elected officials.  CLA is composed of eight interactive sessions, led by representatives from City departments. NEO is proud to have hosted these leaders and to have observed how eager they were to engage in this process. It is the hope that they will return to their neighborhood better equipped to solve problems and improve the quality of life in our City.
