Four Alarm Fire at 3620 Royal Street

July 12, 2014

Saturday, July 12, 2014 the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) received a call at 1:35 p.m. to 3620 Royal Street.  Companies arrived at   1:40 p.m. to find a large two story-sheet metal warehouse structure fully engulfed and immediately struck a second alarm.  Firefighters initially made an interior attack but pulled out as the roof of the structure began to collapse. The construction of the building made it very difficult to access.  Stored chemicals, paints and the intense heat prompted a call for a third and fourth alarm.

The building housed four businesses. New Orleans Art Supply, BARK Pet Supplies, Frame Gallery and the New Orleans Conservation Guild. One of the business owners went up to investigate flames coming from a vent in the rear second story of the building and called the fire department.  Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the original building. Superintendent McConnell would like to remind citizens of the importance of early detection. The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD), Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Entergy Electric and American Red Cross assisted this incident.  There were no injuries and the cause is under investigation.
