Early Morning Fire at Magnolia Villa Displaces 38 Residents

April 10, 2013

New Orleans, LA. – Wednesday, April 10, 2013, the New Orleans Fire Department responded to an alarm at 1801 Magnolia Street.  The first arriving company reported smoke showing and requested additional units.  Firefighters evacuated 38 residents and traced the origin of the fire to a mattress in one of the apartments.  Sprinklers contained the fire to that apartment but the entire building sustained water and smoke damage.  The resident of the apartment of origin was transported by Emergency Medical Services to a local hospital for smoke inhalation.  The other residents were evacuated due to heavy water damage and Entergy Electric having to cut the power to the building.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.  There were no other reported injuries.
