Today the NOPD Arrested the University Area Burglar

December 17, 2013

(December 17, 2012)-Today NOPD Second District detectives arrested 48-year-old John Canty at the Second District station for several burglaries on Audubon Place.

Canty confessed to burglarizing several residences this past weekend on Audubon Place, the most recent was this past Saturday. Back in August there were several other burglaries reported within this same neighborhood which Canty denies involvement. Detectives are still in the process of actively investigating those cases from August in hopes of collecting evidence that could link Canty to those incidents.

Canty has been previously arrested for Aggravated Burglary, 11 Simple Burglaries, Burglary of Inhabited Dwelling, Criminal Trespass, and Battery. Canty is currently on Parole for Aggravated Burglary until September 2014.

Canty is currently being held at Central Lockup for two counts of Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling, two counts of Criminal Trespass, Tampering, and a Parole Violation.
