Event Support

In New Orleans, we know how to host events better than anyone else! The City has created the following to assist you in planning and executing safe, dynamic events in manner that provides a desirable experience for participants and the community.

Event Support Team

The Event Support Team is a multi-agency team with decision makers from every municipal department involved in and/or affected by the production of events. The team meets every month to:

  • review near and long term scheduled events
  • mitigate operational issues
  • provide counsel to event operators where necessary

During these meetings, event operators have a chance to share the specifics of their proposed events.

Events with an expected attendance greater than 7,000 are required to attend a meeting.

Homeland Security

The New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (NOHSEP) is responsible for all hazards disaster planning, response and recovery for the City of New Orleans. During both major incidents and pre-planned events, it coordinates the activities needed to protect the lives and property of its citizens and visitors.

Under the standards of the National Incident Management System, NOHSEP provides the command, control, and coordination of local, state, and federal public safety and emergency response assets. Most recently the office executed comprehensive planning and management for Super Bowl XLVII, but also has annual duties for events like Mardi Gras, marathons, and festivals. The office has helped facilitate many different types of events, from concerts and food festivals to dignatary visits and even a National Special Security Event (NSSE, Super Bowl XXXVI).

For all events, Homeland Security staff lead a team of police, fire, and EMS officials through an all-hazards threat analysis and planning cycle. The result is that public safety functions at all levels are highly coordinated, customized and responsive to the potential emergencies facing any particular event with a comprehensive Incident Action Plan.
