NEPA & Section 106 Public Meeting

NEW ORLEANS – The City of New Orleans, Department of Public Works (DPW), proposes to use federal Disaster-Community Development Block Grant funds to make streetscape improvements along the OC Haley Blvd. corridor from Calliope St. to St. Andrews St. in New Orleans.
In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and its implementing regulations, 36 CFR Part 800 (Section 106), the City of New Orleans hereby provides notice of the initiation of NEPA and Section 106 compliance activities for future actions associated with the OC Haley Streetscape Project design and construction activities.
On April 30, 2013, the DPW will hold a public information meeting to discuss proposed design and construction activities under evaluation for the OC Haley Blvd. corridor. The purpose of this meeting is to engage the general public, local businesses, associations, affected governmental agencies and other interested parties to solicit relevant input and provide timely information regarding the proposed design and construction related to the streetscape project. As such, information regarding evaluation of environmental and cultural resource areas, as well as possible impacts to historic properties at the site, will be made available for public comment.
The public meeting will begin with an informal open house from 5:30 – 6:00 p.m. to allow interested parties to view proposed design scenarios and talk directly to project representatives. At 6:00 p.m., the City and their design team will give a brief presentation providing an overview of the proposed design. The audience will have an opportunity to ask questions and provide written or oral comments. Public comments will be accepted until May 15, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. and can be submitted electronically to Shirley Smith at email@example.com or by mail to City of New Orleans, Office of Community Development, 1340 Poydras Street, 10th Floor, New Orleans, LA 70112, Attn: Shirley Smith, Director of Environmental Compliance.
The meeting provides the public and other interested parties with the opportunity to participate in the decision-making process and ensure that the City considers public comments regarding the impact of the proposed project design, construction and any potential adverse effects on environmental resources.
