Community Outreach Liaison

Department: Office of Nighttime Economy

Description

  • Develop and coordinate in consultation with Mayor’s Office of Communications to create effective messaging about Office of Nighttime Economy programs, successes, and goals
  • Coordinate input from community members, business owners, City partners, and City officials
  • Research national and international nightlife programs and policies to inform the Office of Nighttime Economy programs 
  • Data collection over Office of Nighttime Economy’s first year to determine future initiatives
  • Collaborate on public-facing event planning
  • Develop public-facing materials for members of the nightlife industry
  • Design, edit and manage Office of Nighttime Economy content for social media accounts and other media
  • Respond to phone and email inquiries from residents with concerns and questions about nightlife concerns in their respective communities
  • Provide administrative support for the Director; coordinate industry/community meetings, preparation of materials, and event staffing
  • Assist Director in day-to-day operations of the Office of Nighttime Economy 

Minimum qualification requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above;
  • Act ethically and foster a culture of integrity within the Office of Nighttime Economy
  • Engage in respectful and productive dialogue with people of differing opinions, including on hot-button issues, and be able to foster such a climate within the Office 
  • Possess strong communication skills.  
  • Be able to work at night 
  • Be domiciled in New Orleans
  • Experience working with community stakeholders, including service workers, patrons of bars and music venues, community groups, legislators, and business owners and managers
  • Knowledge of New Orleans night time businesses including restaurants, bars, music venues, and theaters, among other small businesses.

Preferred skills

  • Three years’ experience in New Orleans nightlife economy 
  • Experience working with the small business community.
  • Experience working with community boards and community groups.
  • Strong writing, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, fast paced environment managing multiple time-sensitive projects.
  • A bachelor’s degree or postgraduate education
  • Policy work, legislative development, legal experience, etc.
  • Fluency in Spanish or Vietnamese
  • Military experience or other similar operational work
  • Knowledge of financial planning, forecasting, and value creation
  • Knowledge of process improvement
  • Participation in, or leadership of, community interest groups
