Juvenile Justice Research Data Analyst

The Juvenile Justice Research Data Analyst (RDA) will support the Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice Coordination (OCJC). The Research Data Analyst's work will require a high degree of knowledge of research methodology, data analysis, performance management, and data visualization.

The responsibilities will include data and policy analysis, the collection and distribution of information, facilitation of interagency workgroups, oral and written presentations, and management of long- and short-term projects of high complexity. 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage data analysis, research, and reporting in partnership with juvenile legal system agencies. 
  • Lead the design and delivery of data analysis projects that address pressing policy and management issues and leverage these projects to transform juvenile legal system operations. 
  • Oversee the development and implementation of qualitative and quantitative research projects.
  • Generate performance measures, baselines, and targets for juvenile legal system agencies and alternative to detention programming based on a rigorous analysis of past performance and national best practices.
  • Present complex data and information in simplified and easily understood formats using tables, graphs, or other visual aids, and explain theoretical concepts in simplified terms. 
  • Create compelling presentations, memos, and dashboards for City leaders to encourage data-driven decision-making.

  • Experience in producing data products that involve collaboration across multiple teams and/or departments. Strong written and oral communication skills 
  • Ability to take initiative, solve problems, and exercise good judgement 
  • Superior quantitative and technical skills: 
    • Mastery of Microsoft Excel required
    • Ability to clean and prepare tables for tabulation and analysis; experience with lightly structured or unstructured data is a plus.
    • Some experience with relational databases; basic proficiency in SQL and/or Python is a plus. Familiarity with descriptive statistics is required; familiarity with inferential statistics is a plus. 
    • Familiarity with the calculation and interpretation of key legal system measures.
    • Experience with business intelligence tools, preferably Power BI

Education

Qualified applicants should have a bachelor's or other post-baccalaureate degree in a relevant field, such as social or behavioral science, statistics, law, criminal justice, public administration, public policy, political science, or planning, and at least 5 years of related experience post-Bachelor degree. An advanced degree may be substituted for 2 years of experience.
