Senior Data Analysts

The Office of Performance and Accountability (OPA) is seeking bright, civic-minded Senior Data Analysts to join our team. As the internal data analytics and performance management team for City Hall, we leverage data to set goals, track performance, and get results across City government.

Our team members come from diverse backgrounds including data science, public policy, law, and the social sciences. We work on a broad spectrum of important projects that impact the entire city, such as blight reduction, public safety, and process management.

Responsibilities

Support city-wide performance management by:

  • Collecting and analyzing performance data from City departments and outcome data from external sources.
  • Coordinating meetings with departmental staff to analyze context for performance and identify action items for improvement.
  • Working with departments to frame research questions and assess data sources.
  • Conducting a range of analyses or experiments using appropriate statistical methods.
  • Creating data visualizations and dashboards using Microsoft Power BI and communicating results of analyses.
  • Determining the best project approach and methodology that best suits the task requirements and expectations.
  • Continually looking for process improvements to support on-going quality project management.
  • Leading or supporting new projects identified by the team, senior leadership, and yourself.
  • Other related work as required.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of relevant professional experience required.
  • Experience conducting data analysis and communicating the results (experience with cleaning data, ETL, and machine learning a plus)
  • Experience managing projects, including working with clients (PMP or agile certification a plus)
  • Experience creating dashboards, maps, graphs, or other data displays (experience with Power BI or Tableau a plus)
  • Knowledge of statistical methods and tools, including descriptive and inferential statistics as well as experimental design (knowledge of evaluation methods or behavioral design a plus)
  • Bachelor’s degree that included quantitative coursework in a field such as computer science, statistics, mathematics, economics, public policy, or GIS required (Master’s or other advanced degree preferred)
  • Intermediate Excel skills required (Advanced SQL, R, Python, GIS, or other database and data analysis skills preferred)
