Mayor Landrieu Joins National Bipartisan Campaign to Call on Congress to Pass Transportation Bill

NEW ORLEANS – As part of the national Stand Up For Transportation Day of Action that includes events across the country, Mayor Landrieu today called upon Congress to renew funding for the federal transportation bill, Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21), which is set to expire on May 31, 2015. Mayor Landrieu joins a bipartisan group of mayors and organizations from across the country in this day of action, all representing more than 150 cities and spanning 40 states.

Mayor Landrieu Announces Plan to Install Solar-Powered Trash Compactors for French Quarter and DDD

NEW ORLEANS- Mayor Mitch Landrieu and the Department and Sanitation today unveiled a plan to install BigBelly solar-powered trash compactors in the French Quarter, Downtown Development District (DDD), and other high-profile locations throughout the city. The trash compactors will significantly reduce the frequency of trash collection, reduce overflows of litter, and secure trash containers.

Season Eight of NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball Continues This Weekend

NEW ORLEANS—On Saturday, the City of New Orleans, the New Orleans Pelicans and PlayNola will continue the eighth season of NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball. Midnight Basketball provides safe recreational opportunities in crime hot spots for young men through the game of basketball. Mentorship and educational support are also key components of this initiative.

City Hall Closed Friday

NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans City Hall and City offices will be closed tomorrow, Friday, April 3, 2015, in observance of the Easter holiday. Emergency personnel will operate as normal and will not be affect by this closure. City Hall will re-open at 8:00 a.m., Monday, April 6, 2015.

City Issues Traffic Advisory for Gert Town

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans issued a traffic advisory to extend the closure of Drexel Drive in Gert Town near Xavier University to safely accommodate pile driving operations for an elevated pedestrian crossing over Washington Avenue, the Washington Avenue Drainage Canal and Drexel Drive.

City to Host American Mosquito Control Association Field Demonstration Day

NEW ORLEANS – Tomorrow at NOON, Dr. Claudia Riegel, director of the New Orleans Mosquito, Termite and Rodent Control Board (NOMTRC), will be available to discuss the American Mosquito Control Association (AMCA) Field Demonstration Day being held at the NOMTRC headquarters at 2100 Leon C. Simon Drive in New Orleans.

Mayor Landrieu to Welcome Francophone Mayors to New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS — TODAY, Mayor Landrieu will welcome leaders of the International Association of Francophone Mayors (A.I.M.F.) who are visiting New Orleans as part of their annual conference that brings together French-speaking mayors from the United States, Canada, Europe, the Middle East and Africa to discuss major initiatives of the A.I.M.F., including the development of tourism in Francophone cities and the contribution of the French language in political, economic and artistic development.
