Mayor Landrieu, Chief Serpas Announce Join NOPD Recruitment Event

NEW ORLEANS, LA—Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu and New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Ronal Serpas opened registration for the second local NOPD recruitment event in 2014. On Saturday, June 7, 2014, individuals who are actively seeking employment within the police department will have the opportunity to learn about and start the application process onsite; network and hear the stories of current officers and interface with NOPD leadership from specialized units.

Mayor Landrieu and Councilmember Palmer Announce Agency Partnership to Redevelop Former City Incinerator Site in Algiers

NEW ORLEANS, LA—Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu and District C Councilmember Kristin Gisleson Palmer announced that the City of New Orleans and the Louisiana Land Trust (LLT) will partner to demolish the former City incinerator site located at 2300 Hendee Street in Algiers. The blighted, City-owned structure has sat vacant since it closed in 1975. The demolition is the first step in an overall strategy to redevelop the site and put it back into commerce.

UNITY and Partners Announce Further Reductions in Homelessness

NEW ORLEANS,LA - Today, UNITY of Greater New Orleans announced that homelessness in Orleans and Jefferson parishes dropped 15 percent over the past year. Chronic homelessness dropped even further, by 30 percent, according to UNITY, a collaborative of more than 60 agencies working to prevent and solve homelessness in the two parishes.

Mayor Landrieu Announces Nominations of New Members to the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced the eight Orleans Parish citizen nominees to serve on the new Board of Directors for the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (S&WB). In October 2013, Orleans Parish voters overwhelming approved a City Charter amendment to reform the governance of the board including requiring professional qualifications, reducing its size, shortening term lengths, and imposing term limits.
