City to Begin Work on $14.7 Million Energy Smart Streetlight Conversion Program

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Tomorrow at 9:30 a.m., Lt. Col. Mark Jernigan, Director of the City of New Orleans Department of Public Works, will be available to discuss the City’s $14.7 million Energy Smart Streetlight Conversion Program to convert approximately 20,000 streetlights to energy-efficient LED streetlights.

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Today, the City announced that it will hold a Disaster Recovery Business and Employment Information Job Fair on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. at New Orleans Mosquito, Termite, and Rodent Control Board’s office located at 2100 Leon C. Simon Boulevard.

Mayor Landrieu Announces NOLA FOR LIFE Reentry Strategy

New Orleans, LA – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu, Criminal District Court Judge Laurie White, City Council, Sheriff Marlin Gusman, the Business Council of New Orleans and River Parishes and City officials unveiled the City’s NOLA FOR LIFE Reentry Strategy. Alongside a diverse set of service providers and business leaders, city leaders detailed plans to reduce recidivism by increasing access to employment, social services and educational support for citizens returning from incarceration.

NEW OLEANS, LA —Today, Mayor Landrieu accepted first place in the 2014 City Livability Awards Program during The U.S. Conference of Mayors’ 82nd Annual Meeting in Dallas, Texas. This year’s winning cities were selected by former mayors from a pool of over 200 applicants.

New Orleans City Planning Commission Announces Public Hearings on 2015-2019 Capital Improvement Plan

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Today, the New Orleans City Planning Commission (CPC) announced it will begin holding public hearings to consider the 2015–2019 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). The CIP is a five-year program for City expenditures for permanent physical improvements. Each year, the CIP identifies the physical needs of the City’s agencies, estimates the costs of proposed projects, and recommends expenditures and sources of funding for priority capital improvements.

Governor Signs Bill that Allows Cedric Grant to Oversee the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Today, Governor Bobby Jindal announced his signature of Senate Bill 303. The new law allows for the Sewerage and Water Board to complete the hiring of Deputy Mayor Cedric Grant as its director. Mr. Grant has served as Deputy Mayor of Facilities, Infrastructure, and Community Development for the City of New Orleans since 2010. In the coming weeks, he will assume management of the Sewerage and Water Board as it begins a $3.3 billion capital improvement program.

City Announces that Highly Successful "Soft Second" Mortage Homebuyer Assistance Initiative is Nearly Complete

NEW ORLEANS, LA—Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced that the City of New Orleans’ $52.3 million “soft second” mortgage homebuyer assistance initiative has now issued over 700 commitments to first time homebuyers representing over $40 million in purchase assistance and closing cost assistance. In total, through the Direct Homebuyer Assistance Program 640 home purchases by first time homebuyers have been completed through the success of the City’s soft second mortgage program.

Power Restored at Union Passenger Terminal

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Power has been restored at the Union Passenger Terminal (UPT) and the air conditioning is functioning in the main terminal building. All rail and bus service remains on schedule.
