City to host a free recycling education seminar

July 27, 2012

NEW ORLEANS, LA—Today, the City announced that there will be a free Recycling Education Seminar on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 from 3:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Goodwill/JOB1’s offices, 3400 Tulane Avenue, Conference Room 182.  The goal of the seminar is to provide information regarding the benefits of recycling, available educational tools, grants and tips on how to get a recycling program started.  Presenters will also discuss revenue generating opportunities and cost saving strategies.  The target audience includes those working with children in grades K – 12.

The Department of Sanitation is hosting the seminar in partnership with Keep New Orleans Beautiful, Keep Louisiana Beautiful, The Green Project, SP Recycling and Phoenix Recycling.

The seminar is aimed at encouraging more schools to institute recycling programs, which will assist in the effort to promote the benefits of recycling throughout the community.

The City initiated a recycling drop off center in August of 2010 and curbside recycling in May of 2011 for eligible households.

For more information or questions, please contact the Department of Sanitation at sanitation@nola.gov or call (504) 658-3800.
