NEW ORLEANS, LA –The Mayor’s Neighborhood Engagement Office and the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission are seeking interested individuals to serve on 15 location-based Community Advisory Teams, which will play an integral role in the NORDC Neighborhood Participation Process (NPP).
Approved in January 2013 after months of community input, research review and discussion, the NORDC NPP provides a framework for effective public participation in citywide recreation issues. It calls for the creation of 15 Community Advisory Teams, three per council district, which will meet to discuss and make recommendations on recreation-related topics. The goal is to help ensure that community needs and concerns are an integral component of NORDC decision making.
“Our goal is to produce a more citizen-driven NORDC, and the Community Advisory Teams that will be activated across New Orleans will help us do just that,” said Mayor Mitch Landrieu. “Listening to the concerns and needs of our residents helps us make better decisions about our recreation facilities and programs, and brings us closer to our goal of being the best recreation department in the country.”
Any Orleans Parish resident interested in participating on Community Advisory Team will be welcomed, and participation among all ages is encouraged, with eligibility starting at eight years old. Residents can pick up applications at the NORDC headquarters, at 800 Race Street, at the Mayor’s Neighborhood Engagement Office, in 8E05 in City Hall, online at http://new.nola.gov/neighborhood-engagement/, or at one of the active NORDC recreation centers.
The deadline to complete an application is July 15, 2013. Completed applications can be submitted to NORDC locations or to the Neighborhood Engagement Office, faxed to 504.658.4969, or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
After the application process closes, the Mayor’s Neighborhood Engagement Office and NORDC will organize orientation and training for all Community Advisory Team members, with the goal of launching each team by fall 2013.
