NEW ORLEANS, LA – TONIGHT, NOLA FOR LIFE, JOB1 and 2-Cent Entertainment will host an event to screen short films produced during the 2-Cent Entertainment Media Arts Camp Summer Session. The student films take on the pillars of Mayor Mitch Landrieu's NOLA FOR LIFE plan: Stop the Shooting; Invest in Prevention; Promote Jobs and Opportunity; Improve the NOPD; and Get Involved and Rebuild Neighborhoods. Under the direction of 2-Cent, instructors at Xavier University guided 28 students, ages 15-16, through a five week hands-on learning experience to express their voices on how to best tackle the city’s crime issues. Tonight’s event will include a youth panel discussion, a resource table for those seeking support for social services and presentations from City representatives about NOLA FOR LIFE.
Launched in May 2012, NOLA FOR LIFE is New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu's comprehensive murder reduction strategy to tackle the city's historically high murder rate. Recognizing that law enforcement alone cannot solve the murder problem, NOLA FOR LIFE takes a holistic approach to get to the root of the problem, and implements initiatives in five main categories: Stop the Shooting; Invest in Prevention; Promote Jobs and Opportunity; Improve the NOPD; and Get Involved and Rebuild Neighborhoods.
