Short Term Rental Update

The District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana has issued its ruling in the ongoing legal challenge to short-term rental ordinances in New Orleans. The City’s ordinances have largely been upheld and the Temporary Restraining Order/injunction has been lifted. Our office will now resume application reviews, license issuance and enforcement.

Please be advised of the following processes for each license type:

OSTR (Operator) - Apply/renew via the One Stop App. City of New Orleans | One-Stop Shop Permitting & Licensing (nola.gov)

NSTR (non-Commercial) – The next lottery application period will begin on June 1, 2024, with the next lottery to be held on July 1, 2024.

The Department will be approving Round 1 applications by March 8th. Once your license is approved, you will have five days to pay. You will receive notification of approval at the email address you provided from noreply@nola.gov, so please check your spam filters if you applied, won the lottery, and do not receive an email. All permits issued as a result of the round 1 lottery, including those approved before the TRO went into effect last year, will expire on June 30, 2025. Revised license certificates will be issued to reflect this new date for anyone whose license was issued before the TRO.

CSTR (Commercial) - Please send your renewal documents via email to str@nola.gov. Please be advised that as of June 8, 2023, pursuant to CZO 19.4.A.20, new Commercial Short Term Rental applications can no longer be accepted. Please also note that effective July 1, 2023, a noise monitoring device is required for all Commercial Short Term Rentals.

XSTR (Hotel/Bed and Breakfast) - Apply via the One Stop App. City of New Orleans | One-Stop Shop Permitting & Licensing (nola.gov)
