Police Performance Auditor

Description

Professional, technical and administrative work analyzing data and conducting audits and reviews that provide NOPD Command Staff with objective, thorough and timely evaluations of departmental performance. Work includes producing reports that contain findings and recommendations that can help NOPD Command Staff achieve efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations and policies. Performance auditors will disseminate and communicate these findings and recommendations for process improvements to NOPD Command-Staff as well as supervisors and officers; and related work as required.

  • Conducting complex, specialized law enforcement internal performance audits to determine compliance with federal and departmental regulations.
  • Developing and designing audit work plans, project scopes, methodologies, and compliance testing instruments to facilitate internal audits.
  • Conducting data and trend analysis to discover positive and/or negative patterns in police responses, and recommending next steps based on the findings
  • Reviewing body-worn camera and in-car camera footage, as well as police reports, to make accurate determinations for audit results.
  • Creating visualizations to report results to internal and external stakeholders
  • Identifying methods for improving the operations of the department.
  • Communicating within all levels of the department, presenting findings to NOPD Command Staff, both in written and oral forms.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice, social science, economics, public administration, business related field, public health, public policy, computer science, information technology, or a related field from an accredited college or university; AND
  • Four (4) years** of professional experience working in data collection and analysis; producing written reports that include conclusions drawn from the analyses and/or evidence compiled; and using technology such as Excel, SQL, Python/R and/or PowerBI/Tableau to organize, analyze, and present data findings and conclusions. Professional experience working in compliance, policy development, auditing research, and/or evaluation are a plus.

**A Juris Doctor or Master’s Degree in criminal justice, social science, economics, public administration, business related field, public health, public policy, computer science, information technology, or a related field from an accredited college or university may replace two years of experience. 

**A certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Governmental Auditing Professional (CGAP), Certified Inspector General (CIGI), or Certified Law Enforcement Auditor (CLEA) may replace one year of experience. 

If appointed, employees in this classification are required to successfully complete a proficiency assessment during their probationary period. No probationary period may last longer than one year. Failure to successfully complete these requirements during the probationary period will result in termination or demotion.
