Home » Mayor's Office » News » MAYOR CANTRELL, PUBLIC SAFETY CHIEFS MEET WITH CRIMINAL DISTRICT COURT JUDGES AND OPSO
January 18, 2022 | From City of New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS — Mayor LaToya Cantrell today convened a meeting with key stakeholders and partners in the criminal justice system. The Mayor’s public safety leadership team, including NOPD Supt. Shaun Ferguson, Director of Public Safety John Thomas, Criminal Justice Commissioner Tenisha Stevens, and City Attorney Donesia Turner were joined by Orleans Parish Criminal District Court Chief Judge Robin Pittman and Deputy Chief Judge Tracey Flemings-Davillier, along with Sheriff Marlin Gusman. Their meeting addressed critical issues in the overall criminal justice system in the city, and took steps to identify and to address systemic challenges.
“I want to thank Chief Judge Robin Pittman for reaching out to me and my administration to convene today’s meeting with Deputy Chief Judge Flemings-Davillier, NOPD’s Chief Ferguson and our public safety leadership. To maximize our use of time and opportunity, we invited Sheriff Marlin Gusman to join us for what was a very productive meeting,” said Mayor Cantrell. “The spike in crime that we have experienced in this city during the pandemic is not a challenge any one agency can overcome alone. In the days and months ahead, we will continue to work with all stakeholders --- including the Courts, the DA, and OPSO --- towards solutions that make our city safer.”
