Department of Health Launches Homelessness Online Resource Guide

Homeless

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans' Department of Health today announced the launch of an online resource guide to help address homelessness in the city.

"Mayor LaToya Cantrell is committed to a comprehensive approach and real solutions to homelessness that recognize the complexity of this issue and meet people where they are," said Health Department Director Dr. Jennifer Avegno. "A multi-departmental team is actively working with partners on a variety of projects, programs and initiatives to address short and long-term needs."

To promote awareness, the City is launching the online resource guide to explain the history and nature of homelessness in New Orleans; provides insight on current strategies and future directions; and lists community agencies working to serve homeless individuals. This toolkit will help residents become better informed and join efforts to help however they choose.

The website will be regularly updated and expanded to meet community needs, and can be found at: www.nola.gov/homeless.

In addition, the Health Department has been working on revised regulations for the ordinance on unsheltered homeless recently passed by City Council. The Health Department encourages feedback and comments on these proposed regulations; a public hearing is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 16.
