City issues reminder that property tax payment deadline is Thursday, January 31

January 30, 2013

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Today, the City of New Orleans issued a reminder that tomorrow, Thursday, January 31 is the payment deadline for property taxes for 2013. City Hall’s hours of operation have been extended from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. tomorrow. Taxpayers wishing to make timely payments of property taxes for 2013 are strongly encouraged to consider alternatives to coming down to City Hall to pay their property tax bills as traffic and parking will be difficult because of record numbers of visitors Downtown because of Super Bowl XLVII. The easiest way to pay your property tax bill is to mail a Check and a Payment Stub from your bill to P. O. Box 60047, New Orleans, LA  70160-0047. Using the payment stub provided on the bill will ensure accurate posting. Mailed payments must be postmarked by January 31, 2013 to receive timely credit.

Alternatively, taxpayers can view and pay their property tax bills online by visiting and select "Pay Real Estate Tax". To pay online, you will need your tax bill number. Credit or debit card payments are accepted, but a 2.49% processing fee is added.

There is no convenience fee to pay using your checking account by inputting your bank routing number and your account number. Please note that using a debit card linked with your checking account will incur a fee.

For 2013 only, due to the difficult traffic and parking situation around City Hall with the Super Bowl, three drop off locations will be open on Thursday, January 31, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., inside the following New Orleans Public Libraries:

  • Algiers Regional Library, 3014 Holiday Drive;
  • East New Orleans Regional Library, 5641 Read Blvd; and
  • Mid-City Library, 3700 Orleans Avenue in the American Can Building.

 Please note that these locations are only for dropping off a Check and a Payment Stub:

  • No cash will be accepted; if you must pay with cash, you will need to go to City Hall;
  • A Payment Stub must be included with your Check in an envelope;
  • No-one will be able to answer any questions regarding your bill or property assessment value; and
  • Your returned Check will be your receipt (please write your tax bill number and property address for the tax bill on the face of the check).
