City of New Orleans Releases Bicycle Share System ‘Request for Proposals’

NEW ORLEANS — Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced the release of a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the private operation and financing of a comprehensive bicycle share system. The system is expected to serve a wide range of residents and visitors across neighborhoods and provide year-round, equitable access to worksites and destinations. All proposals must be privately financed. No public dollars will be spent on the implementation, operation or maintenance of the system.

City of New Orleans Develops Comprehensive Plan to Address Zika Virus

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans announced that the New Orleans Health Department (NOHD) and the New Orleans Mosquito, Termite and Rodent Control Board (NOMTCB) developed a comprehensive plan to provide direction for the prevention and mitigation of Zika virus in Orleans Parish. Zika virus is most commonly transmitted to people through the bite of a Zika virus infected mosquito.

Season Eleven of NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball Concludes on Saturday

NEW ORLEANS — On Saturday, April 16, 2016, the City of New Orleans alongside the New Orleans Pelicans, Domino’s Pizza, Nike and PlayNola will conclude the eleventh season of NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball, which provides safe recreational opportunities in crime hot spots for young men through mentorship, support and basketball. The last game of the season will include remarks from U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana, Kenneth Polite.

Parking Instructions and Traffic Restrictions for the Ochsner Ironman 70.3 New Orleans Race

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans issued parking instructions and reminders in advance of the Ochsner Ironman 70.3 New Orleans race scheduled for Sunday, April 17, 2016. This race is a 70.3-mile triathlon, consisting of three stages: swimming, cycling and running. Throughout this event, the public is encouraged to be patient and prepared for delays by making transportation arrangements accordingly.

Mayor Landrieu and RTA Announce $5 Million Grant for New Canal Street Ferry Terminal

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans announced that the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) awarded the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) $5 million in grant funding to develop a new, state-of-the-art ferry terminal at the end of Canal Street.

NORDC Continues Movies in the Park This Week

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) will continue the 2016 spring season of Movies in the Park this weekend with adouble feature. On Friday, April 15, “The Good Dinosaur” will be showing at Burke Playground, 2524 Annunciation St. and on Saturday, April 16, “Minions” will be showingat Kenilworth Playground, 7820 Redfish St.

New Orleans Selected to Receive $1.5M Grant from MacArthur Foundation to Implement Plan to Further Reduce Jail Population

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced that New Orleans received a $1.5 million grant from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation to implement reforms to safely reduce the City’s jail population and address racial and ethnic disparities in the justice system. New Orleans is one of 11 jurisdictions chosen to receive significant funding and access to expert technical assistance to implement a plan for reform over the next two years.
