Updated: Traffic Advisory: Intersection Closure at Freret Street and S. Carrollton Avenue Intersection

Freret & Carrollton

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans today reminded residents that the Department of Public Works (DPW) contractor Impetus Infrastructure, LLC will be performing a closure leading up to the intersection of Freret Street and S. Carrollton Avenue on April 4 through April 5 to accommodate the underground utility work as part of the East Carrollton Group B & C Project. During this time, South Carrollton Avenue from Burthe Street to Zimple Street will be closed to vehicular traffic.

Public safety is the top priority; signage and traffic control measures, such as barrels and fencing, will be onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians. Motorists are advised to use caution during this time as road closures and detours will be in effect. Residents and businesses in this area were notified of the closure through a neighborhood canvass.

The $28.7 million East Carrollton Group B & C Project was designed by Adurra and is being constructed by Impetus Infrastructure, LLC. The scope of work varies by block but includes repairing sewage, water and drainage lines, as well as rebuilding the street entirely and repairing sidewalks and curbs. In general, the contractor is working from 7 a.m. until sunset, Monday through Friday. The entire project is scheduled to be complete by Spring 2025, weather permitting.

Since May 2018, DPW has completed 186 projects with an estimated value of $765 million. Today, 55 roadwork projects are under construction with an estimated value of nearly $781 million.
