Limitations on Location for Backflow Preventers

• No mechanical equipment may be located within a required front- or corner-side yard, this includes backflow preventers and other freestanding pieces of equipment.  
• To the extent possible, all equipment should be placed within the buildable area of the lot.
• Any equipment placed within a required side- or rear-yard must be located in a manner as to prevent obstruction of emergency access between the structure and the property line.
• Placement of equipment within the required front- or corner side-yards may be authorized provided that a variance is obtained from the Board of Zoning Adjustments to allow an accessory structure within the required front-yard area.
