VIGOR Volunteer Program

The New Orleans EMS VIGOR program allows volunteers to work alongside of New Orleans EMS employees providing patient care to the visitors and citizens of New Orleans.  VIGOR is the acronym for Volunteer in Government of Responsibility.  The VIGOR Program is often a stepping stone for potential employees. 

Prerequisites

All VIGORS must complete a VIGOR orientation class and possess the following credentials and certifications:

  • Valid National Registry Certification as an EMT, Advanced EMT, or Paramedic;
  • Valid Louisiana State Bureau of EMS EMT, Advanced EMT, or Paramedic License
  • Valid AHA CPR card
  • Paramedics must also have a valid ACLS card
  • Valid Louisiana Driver's License, Louisiana ID, or other Government issued ID card

Requirements

VIGORs are required to ride along on at least one 12 hour shift every two months to remain an active VIGOR.  When riding along with New Orleans EMS, VIGORs are expected to follow all New Orleans EMS policy and procedures. VIGORs are allowed to assist in supervised patient care. They are also able to attend all in house training.

Apply

The VIGOR orientation class is held at least two times each year. To sign up for a VIGOR orientation class, please complete the form below. Once the form is complete you will be placed in a database and will be emailed once the next VIGOR orientation class is scheduled.
