NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans, Department of Public Works contractor Barriere Construction Co., LLC will detour west- and then east-bound traffic on the St. Charles Avenue (Louisiana Avenue to Napoleon Avenue) repaving project to allow crews to apply a layer of asphalt concrete to correct irregularities on the surface. Public safety is our priority; residents and commuters are reminded to use caution when entering and exiting the streetcar as well as bicycling and walking near this construction site.

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans Mosquito, Termite and Rodent Control Board (NOMTRCB) reports the detection of West Nile virus (WNV) in mosquitoes collected from Orleans Parish. No human WNV or Zika virus cases have been reported in Orleans Parish. WNV cycles between wild birds and mosquitoes and can be transmitted to people by the bite of an infected mosquito.
NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor LaToya Cantrell celebrated the kick-off of NORD’s summer recreation season with other officials and area youth at the annual “Splash Day,” held at the Pradat Pool in New Orleans East.
NEW ORLEANS — Thursday, Mayor LaToya Cantrell signed her fifth executive order. Executive Order LC 18-05 creates the Mayor's Office of Transportation. The office will serve as a vehicle for facilitating coordination of transportation infrastructure projects and initiatives for the City of New Orleans.

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Best Buy and the New Orleans Public Library (NOPL) celebrated their partnership by opening the newest Best Buy Teen Tech Center, located at the Main Library. Mayor LaToya Cantrell congratulated the Library officials and partners in the opening of this addition to the library during a program that featured a tour of the Center, which is located on the second floor of the Main Library on Loyola Avenue.

NEW ORLEANS — Beginning on Thursday, June 14, at 7 a.m., the City of New Orleans Department of Public Works contractor Palmisano Construction will close the southbound lane (right lane) of Elysian Fields Avenue between Lakeshore Drive and Leon C. Simon Drive to begin waterline replacements. This southbound lane is expected to reopen on or around July 16. Public safety is our top priority; residents are reminded to use caution when driving, bicycling and walking near this construction site.

NEW ORLEANS — Since 2011, residents of New Orleans have disposed of more than 80 tons of unwanted electronics at the Department of Sanitation’s Recycling Drop-Off Center. Donations are collected on the second Saturday of each month thanks to the partnership between the City of New Orleans and the Capital Area Corporate Recycling Council (CACRC). Drop-off hours are between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. The Drop-Off Center is located at 2829 Elysian Fields Ave. The next Recycling Drop-Off event date is Saturday, July 14, 2018.

NEW ORLEANS — On Friday, the City of New Orleans Department of Sanitation announced that the glass processing contractor has relocated its facility and is now ready to receive glass for recycling. The City temporarily suspended glass recycling at its monthly Recycling Drop-Off Center (2829 Elysian Fields Ave.) on April 14, 2018, when the glass processor was not able to receive shipments of glass. Today, the City’s contractor, Metro Services, successfully transported the first shipment of stored glass to the processor.

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans issued parking instructions and reminders in advance of the New Orleans Pride Parade, scheduled for Saturday, June 9. The public is encouraged to be patient and prepared for heavy vehicular and pedestrian traffic in specified areas and to make transportation arrangements accordingly.
