The New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) is a multi-response, professional fire protection agency with a classification of “Class 1” representing exemplary commitment to building code enforcement.

The NOFD covers 299 square miles of Greater New Orleans serving approximately 364,000 residents and is one of the best and most unique fire departments in the nation.

The mission of the Public Affairs Office is to coordinate and implement all Community Engagement and Fire Safety Education initiatives.

The Public Information Officer (PIO) is the media liaison and department spokesperson.  The PIO shall serve as the point of contact for all outside agencies and individuals seeking an official response from the New Orleans Fire Department of all matters. 

The Prevention Division is the enforcement component of the New Orleans Fire Department.  Inspectors regularly inspect the premises of various occupancies within the City to ensure adherence to applicable codes. 

Prevention is also responsible for updating and upgrading applicable fire and life safety codes.
