The mission of the Bureau of Treasury is to accurately bill, collect, and disburse ad valorem taxes and act as custodian of all city bank accounts. The Bureau of Treasury’s vision is to improve taxpayer’s customer service experience through the following improvement initiatives:

  • Upgrade accounts receivable system
  • Expand citywide cashiering system
  • Community outreach and education, and revision to refund processes

The Bureau of Treasury is responsible for the following:

  • Processing all receipts collected by the City
  • Issuance and collection ad valorem taxes for the City of New Orleans, Sewerage and Water Board, Levee Districts, Board of Liquidation, Library, Audubon Institute, DDD and numerous Special Districts
  • Maintaining and overseeing the City's bank accounts and investments

    City of New Orleans Announces Annual Tax Sale

    NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans Bureau of Treasury today announced its annual tax sale, set for Sept. 17–19. Only taxpayers with delinquent property taxes from 2021, 2022, or 2023 are eligible. Payments should be submitted to the Bureau of Treasury to avoid the tax sale.

    City of New Orleans Bureau of Treasury Updates Homeowners on 2024 Property Tax Bill Distribution

    NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans Bureau of Treasury today reminded homeowners in Orleans Parish that they will receive their 2024 property tax bills at the end of this month. This change is due to the scheduled public hearing that was held by the Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) on Jan. 18 to determine whether to roll their millage rates forward.

    City of New Orleans Extends Deadline for Property Tax Payments

    The City of New Orleans today announced that the deadline has been extended for taxpayers to submit property tax payments. Property tax bills have been mailed and are available online at www.nola.gov/treasury. Taxpayers have until Feb. 15, 2023 to submit payments before interest accrues at a one percent monthly rate.
