City to Host Recycling Drop-off Day on Saturday

NEW ORLEANS – The Department of Sanitation will host its first Recycling Drop-off Day of the year on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the City’s Recycling Drop-Off Center at 2829 Elysian Fields Ave. Recycling Drop-off Days will be held for Orleans Parish residents on the second Saturday of each month.

Mayor Landrieu to Kick off Carnival Season at Kings Day Celebration

NEW ORLEANS — Tomorrow, Mayor Mitch Landrieu and other city officials will join representatives from Carnival organizations to celebrate Kings Day, which marks the official start of the 2016 Carnival season. Carnival season begins on Jan. 6 each year and culminates on Mardi Gras day, which is on Feb. 9, 2016. The celebration will include presentations from Carnival organizations and a ceremonial cutting of the king cake.

City Encourages Residents to Recycle Christmas Trees for Coastal Restoration

NEW ORLEANS — Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu reminded residents that the City will continue its program of recycling Christmas trees in an effort to promote the restoration of Louisiana’s wetlands and to assist in the protection of the Louisiana coastline. Orleans Parish residents are encouraged to recycle their Christmas trees by placing them curbside on their regularly scheduled collection days between Jan. 7-9, 2016.
