Mayor Landrieu Announces STRIVE Fresh Start Program to Support Participants Involved in Justice System

December 07, 2017

NEW ORLEANS—Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced the latest initiative of the Network for Economic Opportunity, STRIVE Fresh Start. An arm of the City’s STRIVE New Orleans program, STRIVE Fresh Start supports adults 25 and older released from incarceration within the last six months or under supervision. The program provides participants with engaged enrollment, intensive case management, individualized mapping, job readiness training and career pathways services. Additionally, participants will get access to legal services, addiction assistance, mental health treatment and any others services to support successful reintegration into society.

“Through the STRIVE NOLA program, we have graduated and prepared nearly 300 job seekers for success in New Orleans’ workforce. We are excited to continue this impact and expand the services we offer for the people of New Orleans,” said Mayor Mitch Landrieu. “Adults entering back into society from incarceration require special services, and we are glad to be able to offer these resources through our STRIVE Fresh Start program.”

Funded the by the Department of Labor, this program supports residents from the 7th Ward, St. Roch and St. Claude Neighborhoods with plans to expand the footprint further across New Orleans. STRIVE Fresh Start will work with reentry experts throughout the STRIVE network and New Orleans to help participants become productive, law-abiding community members and connect them with sustainable careers, housing assistance and supportive services.

Deputy Mayor and Chief Administrative Officer Judy Reese Morse said, “With the launch of the STRIVE Fresh Start program, we are taking our services for STRIVE NOLA participants to the next level. We look forward to making greater impact in the lives of STRIVE NOLA participants.”

Senior Advisor for the Network for Economic Opportunity Ashleigh Gardere said, “This STRIVE Fresh Start initiative is the latest development in our relentless efforts to create pathways to prosperity for the people of New Orleans. We are excited for the next cohort of STRIVE NOLA to be able to take part in these new services and resources offered through this program.”

Starting in January 2018 with the 18th Cohort of STRIVE NOLA, STRIVE Fresh Start will begin enrolling participants on Dec. 11, 2017. Those interested are encouraged to visit the STRIVE Fresh Start office located at 1340 Poydras St., Suite 100, from 9 a.m. – noon and 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. or call (504) 658-4201.
