Mayor Landrieu, City Officials and CVS/Pharmacy to Celebrate Opening of New Store in the Historic Lower Ninth Ward

NEW ORLEANS – TOMORROW, Mayor Landrieu will join Councilmembers, City officials and CVS/pharmacy to celebrate the grand opening of the new store at 5000 N. Claiborne Ave. in the historic Lower Ninth Ward. CVS/pharmacy is the first national retailer to open a store in the Lower Ninth Ward since Hurricane Katrina. This CVS/pharmacy brings 20 new full- and part-time permanent jobs to the community.

NEW ORLEANS – TOMORROW, the City of New Orleans, with support from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Center for Faith Based and Neighborhoods Partnerships, will hold a preparedness convening to highlight the importance of faith and community-based organizations in the city’s resilience strategy and build upon the ongoing Building Resilience with Diverse Communities (BRDC) engagement efforts.

New Orleans Chosen By White House As Summer Impact Hub to Develop Jobs for Young Adults

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced that the City of New Orleans has been designated by the White House as a Summer Impact Hub to encourage the development of summer and year-round jobs for young adults. The Summer Impact Hubs are a part of the White House’s inter-agency effort to support 16 communities so that they can upgrade and expand jobs, learning, meals and violence reduction programs for young people this summer and year-round.

The City is committed to ensuring the safety of all residents, and the public is encouraged to help spread the word and make the entire community better prepared.

NEW ORLEANS — Yesterday, current and former City of New Orleans employees were recognized for their service by the Bureau of Governmental Research at its 2016 Excellence Governmental Research Awards luncheon ceremony. Ava Rogers, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Operations, and Snapper Poche, Deputy Director for Strategy and Planning of Code Enforcement, were awarded Excellence in Government Awards.

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans issued a traffic advisory for Canal Street. Public safety is our top priority; motorists are encouraged to plan ahead before driving downtown and to avoid the intersection of Canal St. and Convention Center Blvd. if at all possible.
