Purpose
The Central Business District Historic District Landmarks Commission:
- Promotes Central Business District historic districts and landmarks for the educational, cultural, economic, and general welfare of the public, especially the residents of New Orleans;
- Assists in preserving, protecting, and regulating buildings, sites, monuments, structures, and districts of historic interest or importance within the Central Business District of New Orleans;
- Assists in preserving and enhancing the environmental quality of the Central Business District;
- Establishes and improves property values through support of preservation activities; and
- Fosters economic development and encourages balanced growth.
Composition
The Mayor appoints nine members subject to the approval of the City Council as follows:
- One from a list of two persons recommended by the Warehouse District Neighborhood Association;
- One from a list of two persons recommended by the Downtown Development District;
- One from a list of two persons recommended by the American Institute of Architects;
- One from a list of two persons recommended by the Preservation Resource Center;
- One from a list of two persons recommended by the Lafayette Square Association;
- One from a list of two persons recommended by the New Orleans Business Alliance;
- One from a list of two persons recommended by the Chamber of Commerce; and
- Two persons appointed by the Mayor.
