On Friday, May 17, 2013 at 2:45 pm, the New Orleans Fire Department received a call from the University of New Orleans Campus Police Department. A vial containing a mixture of undetermined acids had a buildup of gases and exploded.

Today, the City of New Orleans announced that New Orleans Fire Department Superintendent Charles Parent is retiring this summer. Parent, who has been on medical leave, will remain Superintendent at this time and will serve until a replacement is chosen

Friday morning, April 12, 2013 a mother and four children were alerted by a neighbor allowing them to escape a two alarm fire at 1316, 1318 Teche Street, resulting in a one-year old being transported by EMS to a local hospital for smoke inhalation.

Wednesday, April 10, 2013, the New Orleans Fire Department responded to an alarm at 1801 Magnolia Street. The first arriving company reported smoke showing and requested additional units. Firefighters evacuated 38 residents and traced the origin of the fire to a mattress in one of the apartments.

On Friday, April 5, 2013 at 09:54 pm, the New Orleans Fire Department responded to a call of a fire at Raising Cane Restaurant located at 4009 Behrman Highway in Algiers, LA. Firefighters arrived on the scene to find the restaurant heavily involved in fire.

Late Monday evening at 10:52 pm the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) received a 911 call reporting smoke coming from a building located at 2431 Clio St. The first company arrived on the scene at 10:58 pm, finding heavy smoke pumping out of a brick office building and one metal warehouse building already fully involved in flames.

Sunday, March 31, 2013 at 4:48pm the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) was dispatched on a report of a residential fire at 1347 Esplanade Ave., the corner of Esplanade Ave. and N. Villere St., in the Treme neighborhood of New Orleans. The first company arrived on the scene at 4:52pm, finding a three-story antebellum that had long been converted into a 5-unit apartment building, with heavy smoke coming from the windows near the front of the building on all floors.

Wednesday morning, March 27, 2013 a neighbor in the 2000 block of Josephine St forced entry into a unit of a one-story shotgun double at 2004-06 Josephine St. to save eight toddlers, approximate ages 3-5.
