Civic Leadership Academy Background

CLA was created to foster civic engagement by developing citizens’ understanding of City government and how local offices and services are employed to serve communities.  With this knowledge, participants will be better equipped to lead collective action towards the advancement of neighborhoods and citizens’ quality of life.

There is no fee to participate; however, there is a substantial time commitment.

CLA will meet weekly on Thursday evenings from 6pm-8pm from March 14th to May 2nd in City Hall in the Enterprise Community Conference Room (8th Floor/8E10).  Participants will learn about various aspects of local government including the structure of government, finances, public works, operations, public safety, planning, economic development, et al. Each of the Academy’s interactive sessions will be led by representatives from City departments or guest lecturers.  Refreshments will be served during each session; and a closing ceremony will be held at the end of the 8 weeks on May 2nd.
